CHESHIRE MOULDINGS EYES THE FUTURE

CHESHIRE MOULDINGS EYES THE FUTURE

A £1m machinery investment will allow Cheshire Mouldings to position itself for a big future and to move into the mass market, managing director John Carney has said.

A Weinig moulder, Raimann multi-rip saw and a Dimter Opticut 450 are part of the investment into the company’s St Helens site, which has expanded by around 70,000ft2 over the last decade.

On the factory floor, these will be positioned alongside a €250,000 WoodEye scanner, which will allow Cheshire to automate its grading and stacking of timber and process 180m of material per minute, with Mr Carney adding that Cheshire is one of the few companies in the UK to be using the technology.

Mr Carney said that the company’s investment was the product of successful growth, with turnover doubling in the last five years, and that it intended to continue this development by moving into the “majors”.

“We currently deal with around 500 timber merchants,” he said.

“And in the future we’d like to move into the majors and the mass market and supply one of the big sheds.”
